Welcome
By a “commodious vicus of recirculation” the International James Joyce Symposium returns to Dublin in June 2012. Owing to crises in the banking sector and the collapse of the property market, much has changed in Ireland and in the world at large since the last symposium took place in the city in June 2004, the centenary of Bloomsday. However, culture continues to be as vital as ever in Dublin which was designated a UNESCO city of literature in 2009.
2012 is a signal year for Joyceans since it heralds changes in the reception and application of Joyce's works becuase those texts published during his lifetime now come out of copyright. The 2012 symposium promises to be a particularly exciting one, as a result, and will afford the opportunity to rethink Joyce's writings and the new possibilities and challenges with which they now face us.
You are warmly invited to join us in Dublin in June 2012 and to experience Joyce anew in the city from which he exiled himself but which remained an inexhaustible source of all his literary imaginings.

Note on Flights & Accommodation
It is strongly recommended that you book your flight and accommodation as early as possible as there is a large Event in Dublin in the same week as the symposium. Flights and accommodation will become very expensive closer to June. We have negotiated special accommodation rates on the campuses at TCD and UCD and with hotels you can book on the online registration form.
